O Tukso… Layuan Mo Ako! : Reflection for 1st Sunday of Lent, Year B - March 6, 2006
"Father, bless me for I have sinned… I always have bad and lustful thoughts in my mind." Sabi ng isang nagkukumpisal. Sagot ng pari: "My son, its but normal for you to be tempted as long as you are doing your best to avoid them. Do you entertain this bad thoughts? Sagot ng lalaki: "No Father! I don’t entertained them… rather they entertained me!" Lenten season is a call for us to be HOLY, and the start of the path to holiness is getting rid of sin that enslaves us to perdition. And the best way to get rid of sin is to avoid TEMPTATION. The Church gives us three practical means: First is to deepen our prayer life. Second is through penance, fasting and abstinence and other sacrifices. "The spirit is willing but the body is weak…" Penance helps us to strengthen our will and discipline our body. Last is, works of charily. We always pray to God "not to bring us t o the test" but this is impossible without exerting an effort to pray, make penance and do good works…" We cannot just say… Have a holy lenten season…
