CHOICES : Reflection for 21st Sunday in Ordinary Time Year B - August 27, 2006
(I have to beg again your apology for this late reflection… nawala kasi ang internet access for several days… better late than never naman di ba? hehehe… tama ng palusot! )
We all make choices in life… May mga choices na mababaw katulad ng: Ano ang isusuot kong damit mamya? Anung panonoorin kong sine? Anung gimik namin this weekend?… etc. Pero may mga choices na mahalaga: Anung course ang kukunin ko sa college? Anung magandang work ang papasukan ko? Ano ba ang gusto ng Diyos na gawin ko sa buhay ko? In the Gospel of today, the Lord is not asking us to make a choice but a FUNDAMENTAL CHOICE. "Do you also want to leave?" was the question of Jesus when most of his followers abondoned him. It is a choice whether to be for Christ or against Him. In the First Reading, Joshua and the Israelites made a choice: "We also will serve the Lord, for He is our God!" Can we also make the same bold choice now? Simple choices like to cheat or not, to smoke or not, to cut classes or not… confronts us everyday! Our choice reveals who we are and where we are going. To choose Christ is to choose life… to choose SIN is to choose death. Everytime we choose to commit sin we are turning away from God and abandoning Him. We know the effect but why are we still vent on choosing sin in our life? "Gusto kong bumait pero di ko magawa!" As the song goes but this is not true… St. Dominic Savio made a decisive choice at the age of 15… death rather than sin! Kaya ko rin ba yun? Remember… it’s your choice!
